Your Appointment
Before your specialist appointment, you’ll need to complete some paperwork and undergo preliminary eye tests.
If you need to reschedule, please give us at least 24 hours notice.
What to Bring
Please bring with you:
- Medicare card
- Private health insurance card/details if you have them
- Copy of your referral if you have it
- Your current pairs of glasses
- Any eye drops you are currently using
Time
Dr. Abell highly values your time and strives to minimise patient wait times. You will undergo vision and pressure testing, followed by any necessary additional tests and dilation drops. Plan to be here for 1-2 hours, though delays can occur. If your eyes are dilated, it is advisable not to plan on driving home.
Fees
Fees can be discussed over the phone. All consultations attract a medicare rebate.
Tests will incur extra costs, and in some instances you will receive a medicare rebate for tests. The technicians will advise if Dr Abell wishes for you to have further testing and can discuss these costs with you beforehand.
Please pay your account at the end of your consultation. We accept cash, personal cheques, credit cards, and EFTPOS. Patients with a full pension receive a discounted rate.
Some health funds (such as St Lukes), will provide a rebate on tests also, please ask staff at reception and they can fill out a Health Fund specific form for you to claim back any fees.
uninsured patients
Dr. Abell is always pleased to see uninsured patients. For your peace of mind, the relevant eye clinic will provide a complete and transparent estimate of fees before any consultation, test or procedure. Dr. Abell also works in the public system and can arrange referral here for any procedures you may require that are not covered by medicare or a health fund.
